Vacations – Getting Started & Next Steps

Preparing Kids for Summer Vacation

Preparing for a summer vacation follows a few basic steps. Packing becomes easier and quicker when the procedure is followed. Packing becomes a herculean task if steps are not followed. Depending on the number of children, packing can be a daunting task if you do not follow a few basic steps. Plan the trip in advance such as seven days before.

First, put in place a packing list for each child. Every member of the trip should have a different list. Cross every item packed on each list. Mark differently each time whose packing is reserved. Among others, a monitor, snacks and children’s favorite sheet are usually packed at the end. Keep a copy for confirmation at the end of the trip.

The next step is to pack kids clothes for use every day in say a plastic zip-lock bag. It is a new step. It makes packing easy and enthusiastic. Assign one zip-lock for every outfit. The zip-lock will contain all everything needed in the trip. The zip-lock bag will have socks, tops, headband, underwear, and bracelets among many more.

One out fit for the trip means having five zip-lock bags. It makes you ready for trip. What is needed is in the bag. Choose clothes that do not need constant washing. See to it that kids do not share clothes. A child should have all the clothing for himself or herself. Sharing is tempting but should be avoided. It brings confusion in packing. Three sets for instance, in one bag bring in disorganization. Inscribe the name of the child on the traveling bag.

It is worth noting that kids should be enjoined in packing. Involve them in the process. It teaches them responsibility and increases excitement for the summer trip. You can let kids pack a pair of pajamas, a few books and two or three toys. It engages them and makes them happy.

Children can share toiletries. It is sensible to have all bathroom items in one bag. Preparation for the bathroom is always stepwise. At times, buy a few things for use in the trip then dispose them afterwards. Short trips do not require toiletries. This case is different as it is a summer vacation. Get toothbrushes for the trip only. The quality does not let them use them at home after the trip. The quality does not let them use them at home after the trip.

You are allowed to let kids buy what they can if they get there. Do not congest the bag with everything. You could buy for them some snacks for use while on the road and let them buy more on arrival. Groceries for instance, can always be bought in the destination. Have everything you need placed in the zip-lock bag. Train kids to clean their rooms before they leave. It serves to make them responsible and generate enthusiasm.
